ST GEORGES BASIN DRAGONS SENIOR MENS FOOTBALL 5 MAY 2018
The 5th round of the 2018 competition season for the Senior Men’s teams took place this Saturday 05/05/2018, away to Sussex Inlet Seahawks.
2nd Grade had the bye this weekend, so it was only 1sts & 3rds that played at the Thompson Street Sporting Complex.
3rd Grade – 0-0
In a very hard fought game, Basin gamely finished with a 0-0 draw.
Hopefully the team can continue their form with a strong display against Huskisson next week.
1st Grade – won 3-1
Last weeks bye could not have come at a better time for us, as it gave the team time to review the season so far and to reflect on areas where improvements could be made.
Yesterday was a huge step in the right direction with a noticeable change in attitude & mindset.
The players stepped up as a team and continuously worked for each other both in creating scoring chances and also by snuffing out opposition challenges on our goal from a very hard working Sussex team.
Some short, sharp and well placed penetrating passes opened up the opposition defence on several occasions and it was great to see that we converted on numerous occasions.
Connor MacQueen stepped up and was rewarded for his efforts by scoring two sensational goals with his lethal left foot, while Jake Moffat’s trickery allowed him to bag the 3rd goal.
Dane McGinn was always a threat in attack, but was also instrumental with strong runs in defence.
Our backline of Wade Garin, Tyrone Nye-Williams, Ben Cubbo & George Haberley were very tough to break down throughout the game and helped settle the nerves of our returning keeper Steve King, who also had a very strong game
Thanks to 2nd Graders Owen Browne and Chris Preece for backing us up as Subs.
Another thank you to Renee Brown for her work behind the scenes, this time for filling out the Game Book for 1sts.
We still desperately require the services of a Manager – especially for second grade to assist Martin - help would be greatly appreciated.
Craig Holden continues to do outstanding work behind the scenes as Assistant Coach / Technical Adviser to the !st Grade team, continually analysing areas where we can improve. I know that all the team & I appreciate and value his input.
The Committee has asked us as Senior Players to assume responsibility for running the Canteen/BBQ at home games from Noon on Saturdays through to the end of 1st Grade.
One suggestion is that a team runs it all on their nominated day.
Another suggestion is to roster a time slot during the day for each team to assume the duty.
Please think about this and let us know at training this week as takings from the Canteen are vital for the club to buy uniforms, gear, payment to the referees etc.
Next week sees us contest our first local derby for the year against Huskisson at home in all three grades.
Please come and support your Basin Dragons next Saturday.
As stated in all my earlier notes, our aim this year is to continue building on last year’s results on the paddock but to also continue building a family friendly culture at the Club where all can feel welcome.
Hope to see you there next Saturday.
