Last Saturday the 26th May saw the Men’s senior teams play at home against Illaroo and come away with wins in all three grades – a great effort by all involved.
2nd Grade had a much deserved 2-0 win. Coach Martin Warner had the following to say regarding Saturday’s game:
“Today’s win was a really pleasing result. We held our positions & maintained our shape well throughout this game. When the chances came, we didn’t waste them, but converted them into goals. The Team played well as a whole, but special mention must go to both Jack Neeves & Zac Stahlhut who had outstanding games.
1st Grade had a brilliant 5-1 win.
The Squad needed to re-focus this week and to continue the form they showed against Gerringong last Saturday – and they did. With Simon Cubbo back from injury, it made for a really strong, creative midfield when he joined captain Brendan Hobbs and young guns Jake Moffat & Fraser MacQueen. They dominated the centre of the park which allowed Connor MacQueen & Dane McGinn to run riot in attack. The formidable back four were not to be out done and as a Coach, it was rewarding to see the number of times our fullbacks Wade Garin & Tyrone Williams were attacking in the opposition penalty box, while both Ben Cubbo & George Haberley were making attacking runs through the centre of the field.
Goalkeeper Steve King is improving each game and gaining more confidence to step out of his area and act as a Sweeper when required. It was a really positive feeling for this team when we were able to substitute Connor MacQueen, Dane McGinn & George Haberley in the second half replaced by Connor McLean, Zac Stahlhut & Chris Preece and to have these guys continue the good work.
In a wonderful team effort, Tyrone Williams & Wade Garin were my pick for Best on Ground.
Many thanks to Tam Lee, Jenny Simms and all the people who helped out in the canteen. It was good to see a lot of the players step up and help out. Special thanks to Jimmy Dixon who is currently injured but was organising game sheets, officials etc. and to Andy Mellier for his superb work on the BBQ & Beer Fridge – thanks boys.
Congratulations to Denae & Dave Coventry on the birth of their son Cooper James last Thursday night – another future Basin Goalkeeper. We could not wipe the smile off Dave’s face on Saturday.
Owen Browne unfortunately had a slight disagreement with a router last week and now has a surgically repaired thumb as proof. Unfortunately he will be unable to play for a little while. Please wish him all the best for a speedy recovery as we want him back out on the field playing.
All three grades are away to Shoalhaven Heads next Saturday followed up by 1st & 2nd Grade playing a double header against Manyana at home on Sunday.
