Basin vs Gerringong: 2-1 WIN
To start things off on the hectic weekend of double header football, Basin had the fun trip up north to Gerringong. Basin started well, controlling the flow and tempo of the match rather well and limiting Gerringong in attack. A well placed through ball from George and a lovely run from Blake into the opposition box, a neat little left foot finish and we're up 1-0!!
A little bit of back and fourth for the rest of the half and we go into the 2nd half up 1-0. We kickoff in the second half and show an excellent display of short passing, having about 7-8 players involved in the build up and a string of 15-20 passes from the kickoff and next thing you know Archie is in the 18 yard box slotting it past a hapless goalie. 2-0. Gerringong really started to lift their game after this and were pressing hard to get themselves back into the game.
A questionable handball in the box from the Gerringong striker, allowed him to bring the ball down, and pass to an incoming attacker whom slotted it home, unlucky and now 2-1. Gerringong continued to press and were looking dangerous for awhile and if not for defensive heroics from Nick, slide tackling their striker who had an open goal and then Dayne clearing it off the line, we wouldn't be talking about how we carried on to win this game and grab the 3 points!!! Well done lads! Big game and impressive display from Nick Abel, starting his first game at centreback for us and playing exceptionally.
Basin vs Husky: 2-2 DRAW
The big derby day!! Game started well for us, Blake doing his usual business upfront, working extremely hard to press the back line, forcing passes backwards, leading to the goalie and the defender having a mix up and Blake able to pounce and slot home a well earned goal into an open net, the perfect start. 1-0 up against Husky!
The hype was short lived though and a well placed through ball from Husky onto the wing with a cross into the box and a tap in for them making it 1-1. Enter Danny Shaw. A nice passage of passing lead to Danny having the ball at about 25-30 yards with 4-5 players in front of him, excellent movement with the ball with some fake shots and jinking left to right and he's beat them all and casually put it past the goalie making it 2-1 to the Basin!
However as has been our Achilles heel this season, our concentration isn't strong enough after gaining a lead and Husky were able to get back into the game with a cracking shot from the 18 yard box, making it 2-2.
The rest of the half and game was end to end, Husky having a strong second half but we held out well and had some good chances to win the game, Blake nearly capturing the win in the dying stages of the game and then a glancing header off of a corner but alas we weren't able to get the last goal we needed and a 2-2 result was probably a fair one.
Big games from Dayne, Danny and Lawrence. Special thanks to everyone who played over the weekend, especially those playing two games and the 35's who filled in for us! A solid weekend and a nice 4 points for us from 2 of the top sides in the competition.
