ST GEORGES BASIN DRAGONS SENIOR MENS FOOTBALL 21 APRIL 2018
The 3rd round of the 2018 competition season for the Senior Men’s teams took place this Saturday 21/04/2018, at home versus Shoalhaven United.
With 3rd Grade having a bye it was up to 1st & 2nds to build on the points gained last week by 3rd Grade’s win.
2nd Grade – won 1-0
In a very hard fought game, Basin went to the half time break at 0-0.
Encouraging words from Coach Martin Warner, saw the team come out in the second half with purpose and determination.
A goal to youngster Lachlan Dixon, sealed the win in a very good team effort.
Thanks to Graham McOmish and Chris Brown from 3rd Grade for their help as substitutes as a few of the regular 2nd Graders were not available on the day.
Hopefully the team can continue their form with a strong display against Callala next week.
1st Grade – lost 1-2
A very frustrating game against opposition that never gave up.
The team continues to play patches of very good football, but lost the game due to poor finishing and poor decision making at crucial times.
Discipline was also poor and needs to be better controlled as we cannot afford to have players being yellow carded for 10 minutes during crucial periods.
Our defence was stronger this week with both Ben Cubbo & Wade Garin having solid games.
Jake Moffat played well and scored our only goal and had one 35 metre rocket stopped by a brilliant save from the United keeper. His work rate was excellent as he continues his comeback from a knee reconstruction.
Simon Cubbo had a busy game in the centre of midfield and stepped up another notch when the team was reduced to 10 players.
This team will turn the corner but have to find that mental toughness they displayed in the second half of last season.
Next week 1st Grade has a bye, so it will be 2nd & 3rd Grades take on Callala at home.
Thank you to Club President Dave Sim for opening up and running a Canteen on the day.
Thank you also to Chris Preece who was at the ground at midday to help set up the field, played seconds, sat on the bench for 1st Grade and then helped take down the nets etc. Every club needs players like this – well done mate.
Lastly, thanks to big Dave Coventry from seconds who stepped up to keep for 1st Grade after playing seconds, as our five other senior keepers were out either injured or unavailable – good effort Dave.
On a brighter note, as stated in all my earlier notes, our aim this year is to continue building on last year’s results on the paddock but to also continue building a family friendly culture at the Club where all can feel welcome.
We desperately require the services of a Manager – especially for second grade to assist Martin.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Please come and support your Basin Dragons next Saturday.
Hope to see you there.
