SENIOR MATCH REPORTS 14 APRIL 2018
The second round of the 2018 competition season for the Senior Men’s teams took place this Saturday 14/04/2018, away, against Bomaderry.
We came away with 3 points on the day courtesy of 3rd Grade, but good performances were also put up by both 1st & 2nd Grades.
3rd Grade – won 3-1
2nd Grade – lost 0-3
A very hard game in trying conditions against a top class opponent.
The team never stopped trying all game, but were without Lachlan Dixon, Brad Southward & Jai Duffy for this game. Jacob Insley also suffered a hamstring injury in the second half & took no further part in the match. Thank you to the3rd graders who helped out as subs.
In a good team effort, special mention goes to Jack Eastwood, Jimmy Dixon & Ash Hale for their contributions.
1st Grade – lost 0-4
A fast, good quality game against last years Grand Final winners in blustery conditions.
The guys played well and kept the opposition scoreless for the first 30 minutes before Bomo opened up their account with a goal past our new keeper Steven King. A great attacking run shortly after saw us denied a penalty when Brendan Hobbs was taken down in the box.
While Basin were still contemplating the decision, Bomo quickly counter attacked and scored from a cracker of a shot into the top corner giving Steve no chance of a save.
With the score at 0-2 at ½ time, a decision was made to change our original game plan and go to a more attacking structure for the last 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, 10 minutes into the half, Dane McGinn succumbed to a foot injury suffered early in the match. He was replaced by young Zac Stahlhut making his second appearance in the top grade.
In an entertaining half, Bomo showed why they are such a classy team scoring another two goals.
But to Basin’s credit we also continued to create chances but were unable to complete them.
Fraser ‘Froggy’ MacQueen had a blinder and ran himself to a standstill, while Tyrone Williams and Wade Garin also had great games. Zac Stahlhut continues to show that he has all the skills required to become a future 1st grader, while Steve King made a strong return as keeper and will only continue to improve.
Next week 1st & 2nd grades take on Shoalhaven United at Home, while 3rds have the bye.
Thank you’s go Renee Brown for her assistance in filling out the match book for 2nd & 3rd grades and Terry Haberely for 1st Grade, but I will continue to ask for help as all teams require Managers to assist the Coaches – any volunteers??
A special thank you to long time club sponsor Bill Stahlhut for his valuable assistance in getting & keeping two 1st Graders on the field this weekend – we all appreciate you giving your time.
On another very important note, would all players please advise their friends, parents, supporters etc that no one other than the listed players can enter the field of play once a game has commenced, until given permission to do so by the match official.
Unfortunately this did happen on two occasions at home last week and cannot be allowed to happen again.
On a brighter note, as stated in all my earlier notes, our aim this year is to continue building on last year’s results on the paddock but to also continue building a family friendly culture at the Club where all can feel welcome.
Please come and support your Basin Dragons next Saturday.
Hope to see you there.
