PRESIDENT'S WRAP-UP OF 2017
Apart from the much-publicized vandalism to our clubhouse early in the season, we here at the St Georges Basin Football Club have had quite a positive 2017.
With a little bit of government funding for low income families, our registrations of 354, was a little up on last year, and we could field 22 non-competitive teams (1 more than last year), and 11 competition teams (2 x less than 2016).
Four teams made the finals, with our over 35s taking out both the grand final and competition championship (which is quite timely for our new and improved trophy cabinet), and our Men’s 1st grade really rattled a few cages in the second half of the season, which has put them into a great mindset for the start of 2018.
Our new signage, around the grounds, supporting good behaviour towards players and referees, really seemed to work wonders with spectators and our cadet refs, and kept our Goodsports accreditation at level 3.
Unfortunately, our latest attempts to have long awaited drainage work done, to our main field, has been denied for this season, but it hasn't stopped us from applying again for future seasons to come.
Lastly, our new removable senior goal posts, not only has it made it safer for the touch footballers to use the fields in our offseason, but we are hoping to see some nice lush goalmouths for the 2018 season openers.
Thanks again for another great season, and see you all in 2018.
